Gift Planning
A planned gift is a special donation that is tax effective and
balances a donor’s financial needs and charitable goals.
Making your planned gift to AboutFace is easy, flexible and rewarding.
Whether you choose a gift for today or for the future, your generosity
will ensure that AboutFace continues to lead the way in supporting
families, children and adults living with facial differences. You
can make the AboutFace mission a part of your own personal legacy.
There are many ways you can help build a bright future for AboutFace
members including:
Cash or Monthly Donations
You can donate today by sending your donation to our office, or
by calling us and making a donation on your credit card. Joining Circles
of Smiles, our monthly giving program is a convenient
and cost effective way to provide ongoing funds to support our
work. When you sign up as a monthly donor, you are helping
us to save postage and administrative costs.
Gifts of Stocks and Securities
A gift of publicly traded marketable securities is a tax effective
way to donate to AboutFace. When you donate stocks, bonds
or mutual fund shares you pay no capital gains tax on the appreciated
value. A gift of marketable securities to AboutFace is almost
as simple as a cash donation, and comes with the enhanced benefit
of allowing you to receive a tax receipt for the value of the
security without having to pay tax on its gain.
Gifts of Life Insurance
Donating a life insurance policy will enable you to make a significant
future gift with relatively small premiums. By designating AboutFace
as the owner of a new or existing insurance policy, you continue
to make premium payments and receive a tax receipt for the premiums
paid. If you retain ownership of the policy and designate AboutFace
as the direct beneficiary when you pass away, your estate will
receive a receipt for the face value of the policy.
RRSPs and RRIFs
Gifts made through Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)
and Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs) help to offset taxes
owing on funds when you pass away. Your gift is treated as a charitable
donation in the year of death and is eligible for a tax credit
on your final tax return. The tax credit may completely offset
the taxes payable on the proceeds.
A Gift In Your Will
The most commonly planned gift, a charitable bequest, is a gift
that is made through your will. You can choose to leave AboutFace
a specific piece of property, a pre-determined sum of money or
a percentage of your estate. Through your will, you may even
provide a permanent endowment in your name or a loved one's name. Planned
today, a bequest benefits AboutFace after you are gone.
By carefully planning your bequest, you can eliminate significant
taxes payable upon your death. Your estate may claim gifts in the
year of death equal to 100 percent of your net income in that year
and the year preceeding death.
If you are drafting or revising your will, please consider including
a gift to AboutFace. To facilitate your estate planning, we can
offer sample wording for your will and further details on establishing
a legacy gift to honour yourself, your family or a special individual.
