The AboutFace Online Community is a place for people with facial differences to connect with others who share common experiences. It provides the opportunity for people around the world to discuss issues, ideas and lend support. Like all AboutFace programs it is based on the self-help model which encourages respect for and value of the individual experience.
We ask you to read and accept the following Guidelines to order to participate in our Online Community.
Registration
We encourage you to browse and learn about our Online Community. However, to participate and post messages on a discussion board you must register. To process your registration, we require specific information to verify your real name, age and country of origin. This information is collected and stored in accordance with the AboutFace Privacy Policy and will NOT be available to others unless you choose to reveal it. Participants select their own displayed Username through the Profile Management Section. For online privacy, the site is secured with encrypted log-ins and a SPAM Filter.
Our Teenage Discussion Board is designed to give young people, ages 13 -18, their own forum. Our minimum suggested age for participation is 13 and we reserve the right to remove or block participants who are younger. We strongly discourage the use of this discussion board by children. All registrants under the age of 18 must have the approval of a parent or guardian to participate. This consent will be required upon registration.
Participation
The AboutFace Online Community is organized into a series of four discussion boards designed for distinct audiences. Please choose and post in the forum that is most relevant to you and your experience.
Safety is important, so we ask you to think carefully before sharing personal information. We advise you not to disclose your telephone number, home address or other information online to strangers.
We value the experiences of all people and request that participants in our Online Community respect this principle. Bullying and disrespectful behaviour and language will not be tolerated. You may not harass, threaten or abuse others. Slanderous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, and insulting comments are prohibited; we reserve the right to remove any such posts. We will also remove posts that are inappropriate or off subject.
Monitoring
While the AboutFace Online Community discussion boards are monitored on a regular schedule, we CANNOT review all posted messages. If we learn of communications that may be harmful to others, or that impinge upon the rights of other visitors, we will take appropriate action. We may delete any communication that we deem to be inappropriate, and may send you a warning and/or terminate your access immediately. We reserve the right to close the accounts of violators of our Guidelines and take other appropriate action if necessary. We ask members to assist us by reporting abuse to forum@aboutfaceinternational.org.
Occasionally, opinions or comments posted on the discussion boards may be integrated into advocacy, marketing and communications activities of AboutFace International. This will assist our mission to provide emotional and social support, resources and educational programs for people with facial differences and their families.
